I have set up the outgoing as Server Name: smtp.gmail.com Port: 587 Username: xxx@not-a-gmail-name.uk Authentication method: Normal password Connection Security: STARTTLS

Although my email doesn't end with gmail.com it IS a GMail address via Google's G-Suite wich I use for unlimited storage in Drive.

Can anyone help?

Make sure you've allowed 'less-secure apps' in your account, enabled cookies for google in TB, and use OAuth2 authentication instead of 'normal password'.
