Firefox and Thunderbird report wrong software versions to Kaspersky

In the notification center, Kaspersky tells me that I have to update the Firefox browser or my Thunderbird email client. The problem is that Firefox or Thunderbird are already updated to their latest versions. I do not know if this is a Kaspersky problem or a problem with the Mozilla programs that do not report which version are installed or that the Mozilla programs are not compatible with the way that Kaspersky collects this information. This happens after I install the most recent versions from the Mozilla applications (ie, I do not use Kaspersky) and Kaspersky identifies both applications in their originally installed versions (it does not detect the updated versions).

My guess would be that Kaspersky is checking the information in the Windows registry that is added by the installer. However, I think if you want an authoritative response, you should ask Kaspersky how their feature works and, if they require changes to Mozilla programs to get more accurate results, encourage them to please file a bug with Mozilla describing what is needed in specific terms.

Thank you, I've already shared this Kaspersky. I also confirmed that in the registry:

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox 57.0.4" the geckover value is indeed 57.0.4

and

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\mozilla.org\Mozilla" the currentversion is also 57.0.4

but the installed version is 58. I guess you are correct to push Kaspersky to file a bug instead of an user ;)

On Windows 7 I have the following, which suggests that your last update didn't properly increment the Registry values. You could re-run the installer, but I'd make a backup first.

(64-bit Stable) (64-bit Nightly)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox

CurrentVersion REG_SZ 58.0 (x64 en-US)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Nightly

CurrentVersion REG_SZ 60.0a1 (x64 en-US)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\mozilla.org\Mozilla

CurrentVersion REG_SZ 60.0a1

(32-bit ESR)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox ESR

CurrentVersion REG_SZ 52.6.0 ESR (x86 en-US)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\mozilla.org\Mozilla

CurrentVersion REG_SZ 52.6.0

I forgot to mention I am using Win10 x64, and that the updates were executed via the Firefox's and Thunderbird's own pushed notifications, not by the most recently downloaded installers, which in case, I think could update correctly the registry values...

I can't give extra info because there's another problem when backing up and restoring profiles with my setup. I will create a new thread with this info...

The automatic updates also should update the registry but occasionally things go wrong.

Yes, I would expect that.

Although, my "users" folder is not in the same volume as the boot drive (C:). Also, the installation path is not on the boot folder. I don't know if this is relevant or not.

Although, I created the users folder while installation using a relocate.xml script. All users were created at installation from scratch and everything seems to work fine.
