I have the updater disabled in firefox 55. I also have the updater internet access blocked via my firewall but firefox still annoys me by trying to update. I am using Windows 10 home & when I start firefox I am prompted as to if I want to allow the updater to make changes to my computer.

Any ideas?

You should not use old versions of Firefox, they have known security risks. Please update ASAP Update Firefox to the latest release

Although I appreciate the reply Tyler Downer, it is off topic (which tends to be a common trend in forums). That is like saying my car is not 2018 so I should buy a new one because my 10 yr old car may break down or my 1 yr old $2,000 television may stop working.

I live by the old saying that "if it isn't broken then don't fix it". If my firewall & anti-virus software doesn't stop a threat then an up to date firefox browser isn't going to either.

Thanks again...

No, you are incorrect. The security issues fixed in modern versions of Firefox are both real, actively exploited, and can't be stopped with anti-virus.

In modern computing environments, you need multiple levels of security, from an updated and secure router, to a firewall and anti-virus, to keeping all software on your computer up to date.

To go back to the car analogy, this is like saying that your 2010 car has a massive issue in it that has been fixed in a recall and you need to bring it in to get repaired. Updates to Firefox are free and easy to apply
