Two sites: UK Teachers Pension (Capita) and Bank Of Ireland (other sites fine), ask for entry of particular characters from password/PIN (eg 3rd, 5th, 7th) into boxes on log-in page. Entry seems to go fine but on submission: 'incorrect...try again...2 tries remaining'. Using IE11 works fine.

Bank of Ireland was getting reports of this last year but the issue persists, the pension site was ok last year but not now.

Win 7-32 bit, with up to date FF does this as does win 7-64 bit machine with FF 52.6.0 ESR.

uMatrix is installed but disabling filtering makes no difference: FF fails with these sites IE11 works. Has FF deprecated something (Java?) that some sites still use?

Two sites: . . . ask for entry of particular characters from password/PIN (eg 3rd, 5th, 7th) into boxes on log-in page

Are you entering this data, or is the Password Manager sending the wrong information? Firefox sends the user and password information. It can not just send this character or that.

Question: Does it always ask for the same characters? If so, a form filling add-on may be best here.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.

Hi Fred Thanks for your replies.

No. The idea is to as for entry of random characters each time eg for a 6 digit pin: six boxes numbered 1-6, boxes 2,4,6 (say) filled with a star leaving boxes 1,3,5 to be filled with the first, third etc digits of the pin.

There is a cursor in the first box and as each is filled the cursor jumps to the next. Same for characters from password. This works with IE11.

A similar system at Nationwide asks for say first, second etc digits from drop down lists. This works with IE and FF.

The pension site used to work with FF, now doesn't. The other never did, first try June 2017. Have never used a password manager.

Note that current ESR is 52.7.3.

Did you try to check in the Web Console what data Firefox is sending to the server?
