I have exported my Google calendar data as an ics file and I want to import it into Lightning. My aim is to break the link with Google Calendar and shut it down so I'm not looking to sync GC with Lightning.

Open the Calendar tab in Thunderbird. Press Alt or F10 to restore the menu bar in case it is hidden.

From the main menu bar: Events and Tasks (Alt-N) - Import Pick the desired calendar for the import.

What exactly is your question? Is there any problem with importing the ics file?

Apologies, I wasn't clear. I cannot see how to load that exported Google Calendar ics file into a new Lightning calendar instance.
