Hi, I've recently changed my email accounts from outlook to gmail, Have setup gmail rules to file to specific emails to specific folders. But despite not changing my TB setup (still in IMAP), I notice many of my folders not becoming bold to show new emails until I manually click on the folder. But I've noticed that some of the new emails were sent to me 24hours earlier, but still not alert despite the fact that I restart TB many times during 24hours. Just incase, I tried changing TB to check every 5minutes instead of 10minutes. But TB is still not bolding these folders. I logged into gmail manually which showed 4 in bold next to a folder to indicate it's unread. In TB I manually clicked "Get New Messages" for that email account and still, TB did not update that folder to show it has 4 unread messages. Why is this happening and how do I resolve TB to alert me of unread folders without me having to manually click on them?

Right click the folder and select properties. Is the folder set to be checked when getting mail? Spam and the like are certainly not set that way be default.

Thanks, although many of them that do get checked don't have that setting enabled, I'll give it a shot! Is there a to ask TB to enable checking all folders always so I don't have to manually set this for hundreds of folders spread out amongst several accounts or whenever I create new folders?

Check this setting for each imap mail account:

  • Right click on gmail account in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
  • Select 'Server settings'
  • Select checkbox: 'Allow immediate server notifications when new message arrives'
  • click on 'OK'

Did you need to selct this checkbox ?

No, because that setting is already ticked.

Why would you be creating hundreds of folders. Or more precisely why would you be resetting this information more than once. As a general rule Thunderbird does include new folders. But it does not include archive folders, junk folders trash etc because they really should no be getting new mail you want to see.

During App & plugin updates, or crashes, things tend to break. Whenever I create new folders to organise things, folders get created.
