Are you talking about a POP or IMAP mail account?

If you used POP before and created a new POP account, then it is a new pop account, so you would not see any folders or emails; that is to be expected. But you can point the new pop account to look at the old pop account. Did you change the 'Local directory' to look at the old pop account ? If no: Right click on new pop mail account name folder in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'. select 'Server Settings' On the right side near the bottom is 'Local directory:' Make the width of the window wider so you can see all of the text. It will say something like this - MAC: ~/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/abc31c234.default\Mail\mail.domain.com-1

WINDOWS: C:\Users\User Account name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\abc31c234.default\Mail\mail.domain.com-1

It should have -1 (or another number) at the end. This is because there is already another pop mail account with same name- probably your original account and you need to point to that other account.

click on 'Browse' Go up one level so you are in the Mail folder and can see a list of pop mail accounts. select the old pop mail account folder click on 'Select Folder' click on 'OK'

Restart Thunderbird.
