Firefox is not remembering the cookies and data of websites that I have saved under Exceptions. These sites are saved under Exceptions but I still have to log in every single time I access those sites, regardless of the fact that are saved to the list.

To clarify the earlier reply:

On the Settings page:

Cookies and Site Data

The "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" feature honors exceptions.

History

Neither of these --

  • Firefox will "Never remember history" {invokes automatic private browsing}
  • Firefox will "Use custom settings for history" + "Clear history when Firefox closes" with Cookies checked in the Settings box to the right

-- honors exceptions.

You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you.

  • create a cookie allow exception with the proper protocol (https:// or http://) to make a website remember you

You can check that you aren't clearing important cookies.

  • using "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" keeps cookies with an allow exception
  • using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear cookies clears all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Exceptions"

But I want Firefox to delete all cookies and data EXCEPT the exceptions. Would changing the settings you describe remove the layer of privacy that I'm looking for?

Thank you! That solves it.

Hi, I'm having the exact same issue, but for me, the given answer is not working. The list under Manage exceptions... is still purged every time Firefox is closed.

Settings:

  • Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed active
  • Use custom settings for history
  • Clear history when Firefox closes
  • Everything checked in Settings... except for Cookies.

Thanks!

Hi zerog981

You wrote:

  • "Clear history when Firefox closes"
  • Everything checked in Settings... except for Cookies.

You need to exclude the Site Preferences as well because clearing the site preferences also removes the exceptions like I wrote above:

  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data

Hi cor-el, thanks for your quick reply. That makes perfect sense of course and is working nicely.
