a web site closes as soon as I open it

more options

I have 2 computers running Firefox, both running 104.0. This computer is windows 11 other windows 10.

Problem; Up until about a week ago I was able to click email links to open judicialwatch.org on this Win11 computer. Now, whenever I try to open that site (via link or direct entry) the tab closes immediately. From a link, I can see the tab open then close, from direct input it just closes when I hit enter. (The windows 10 computer has no problem.) I have searched for any settings that would show blocked web sites and cannot find any settings / listing of blocked web site. As the win11 is my primary computer, this is VERY annoying. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Scott

Hi Scott, I can't think of any reason for Firefox to close a tab after a page has just opened.

Does "Reopen closed tab" work at that point, or does it just close again? To call that function, either:

  • press Ctrl+Shift+T
  • right-click another tab in the same window >Reopen Closed Tab

Do you use any add-ons that block pop-up windows? Some can be over-eager.

The tabs don't show in "History" / "recently closed tabs". I have not loaded popup blockers on this computer. I didn't mention it before, but I have done a complete shut down and restart. I don't see anything in the menu for "Reopen closed tab"

Hmm, not in recently closed tabs.

Are they separate windows? Hovering the mouse pointer over the Taskbar button would be the fastest way to check for an open window. For closed windows, you could try either History > Recently closed windows or Ctrl+Shift+N.

Do you use any container-related add-ons?

This is totally strange, yesterday I was able to open a link to their page, this morning the problem is back. To answer your last question, there is no indication in my history of the pages that I try to open this address. Judicialwatch.org I went back to my history and tried to open from there, same thing. You see a tab appear and immediately goes away.

You asked ; Do you use any container-related add-ons? no I don't

After Both a restart and a shut down the problem continues.

To rule out add-ons, could you test in Firefox's Troubleshoot Mode? In that mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is running:

You can restart Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Help > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)

and OK the restart. A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

If Firefox is not running:

Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.) A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

Note: Don't use the Refresh without first reviewing this article to understand what will be deleted: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

Any improvement?
