I am trying to just type a URL from my clipboard into the URL address bar but every time I do this it searches using a search engine instead of just opening the URL directly.

This issue seems to be new. I have gone in settings and there is no indication of how to even turn off the search engine function of the URL address bar.

You can stop using the address bar for searches by adding a search bar on the Search page of Settings. You can also enter about:config in the address bar and change this preference to false. keyword.enabled
