I have a dual-monitor set-up on my PC. I have a 19" widescreen monitor which NVidia treats as Monitor 2, and a 17" non-widescreen monitor which NVidia treats as Monitor 1. Monitor 2 is set as the main monitor. Interestly enough, the set up was the same on Windows 7 32-bit which I had installed. 17" as M1, 19" as M2, 19" set as main monitor, yet FireFox opened properly on Monitor 2.

I'm clueless as to what is causing this...

If your Firefox is maximized, make your window smaller and take it to the monitor you want to. Then close Firefox and save that setting. On restarting, you can maximize it again. It should stay on the desired monitor then
