After installing a Skype update, every time I open Firefox it starts continually openning new tabs (pointing to a Skype page of some sort). I have uninstalled both Skype and Firefox, then reinstalled FF but it keeps happening. It is also affecting IE. I have tried to stop FF restoring previous session but no help.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately most of these require being able to use Firefox and while this problem persists it is unusable.

-> press CTRL + ALT + DEL keys to open Task Manager -> Processes tab -> right-click firefox.exe and click End Process Tree -> close Task Manager

-> Start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down SHIFT key while starting Firefox

  • As an alternative method, use Win + R key combination and enter one of the following in the Windows Run box:
    • firefox -safe-mode
    • "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode

-> Firefox Safe Mode window will appear -> DON'T SELECT ANY OPTIONS, just click Continue in Safe Mode

Now open the articles mentioned in my previous post and perform the steps suggested in them. Check and tell if its working.

Thanks.I'd already found that and it didn't help.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
