When I enter a password and hit enter, a popup comes asking if I want the program to remember the password. It is gone in about one second, before I have time to move the mouse over it and click on remember. Is there any way to pause this or slow it down so I will have time to reasonably mark "remember?"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

You should see if you can update your old Firefox 3.6.17 version to the latest 3.6.24 version via the software update of your Ubuntu distribution or if you can update to Firefox 8.
