PCWorld sites don't work properly

I have noticed that many times, Firefox does not work properly with some PCWorld sites. For example, http://lm.pcworld.com/t/3773700/6117758/360996/0/ is a slide show about obsolete hardware. The slides are cut off at the bottom, and some show only a sliver of the full slide. The site works in IE, and the slides show properly when I execute the IE rendering add-on, but when I use the latter, I cannot log into PCWorld using LastPass, my password manager. That only works if I use IE to access the site.

Why does Firefox not work properly with PCWorld sites containing slide shows?

That show looks okay to me.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

This will open a dialog allowing you to remove your pcworld.com cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

If that doesn't help, see whether making an exception for pcworld.com in your ad blocking extension helps at all.

There are a lot of scripts running on that web page, so make sure that you aren't blocking any of them.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Also check the (advanced) settings in your security software (firewall, anti-virus).
