When I try to press enter after I type in a site it will not go to the site and when I click the new tab button or press control+t the new tab isn't showing up either, although the new window works but I still cannot go to any site without using the Google search bar.

I just updated my Firefox today to 29.0 and I'm on Windows 8.0 on a HP laptop. Before updating, the browser was working just fine.

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem
