Even with a fresh installation of Firefox, Carmen gets these pop-up ads "all the time", even overwriting her email file list. A little green bar appears at the top of the browser window saying she is using the "lite" version of her email client, which is "incorrect", and the ads continue. Enabling "block pop-up windows" in the security section does not affect this issue.

It is not a problem on my machine, which is a legacy machine with Win XP.

Is it possible that her computer is infected with malware.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
