Using the recommended procedure - click on star to open dialogue box, then click on Remove bookmark - does not work consistently. It deleted some but leaves others still in place. Is it relevant that the last entry in the dialogue box (tags) is outlined in blue, but that Remove bookmarks box is not highlighted?

Cor-el Thanks for the three URLs. I am grateful for an introduction to such a wealth of information. FYI. I have cured my problem using a method suggested by another contributor - find the bookmark in the bookmarks menu, highlight it, press Delete. Ignorant

If there is more than one copy of a bookmarked URL then the remove button should show this number.

Clicking the remove button in "Edit This Bookmark" should at least remove the bookmark in the location that shows there. If that isn't the case then an extension or full theme might prevent this or possibly a problem with places.sqlite.
