Why does the mouseclick context menu on the tab no longer shows the option to move the tab to another group.
When I rightclick mouseclick on a tab, the context menu no longer offer to move that tab to another group.
This is new since 38.05
Why was this feature depricated?
Chosen solution
I've got Fx 38.0.5 on Win 7 x64.
Have you ever created a userChrome.css file to modify Firefox's user interface? That's the only other method that comes to mind to hide a menu item. You can look for such a file this way:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.
Look for a folder named chrome and, if you find it, double-click into it.
Any userChrome.css file there? If so, you could open it in a text editor and view its contents to see whether it looks familiar.
Or perhaps your program files were damaged in the upgrade. That happens from time to time, with unpredictable results. To remedy that, i suggest:
Clean Reinstall
We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.
(1) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 38.0.5 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)
(2) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).
(3) Rename the program folder:
(64-bit Windows folder names)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
to
C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox
(32-bit Windows folder names)
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
to
C:\Program Files\OldFirefox
(4) Run the installer you downloaded in #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.
Can you get Firefox reinstalled?
Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:
- \OldFirefox\Plugins
- \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

I still see it (screenshot attached). Do you use any tab-related extensions that might tweak the context menu or modify any tab-related features?
Do you have at least one group created and have given this group a name?
