installed vs40. google search suggestions do not work. Mac Snow Leopard.
Installed 40.0.2. Mac 10.6 (Snow Leopard.) Search suggestions in Google search box do not work. It just displays a bunch of searches I've used in the past. (always the same bunch, whatever I type.) Yes, I have turned "search suggestions" on and off, as per help page. -- D

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

next problem. Location bar auto-complete does not work.
On the first problem, is it Google's own search box in their site, or do you mean the Firefox search bar (usually at the right end of the toolbar) or a search box in a Firefox page (e.g., home page, new tab page)?
For the location bar, could you double-check the setting for what to show in auto-complete. By default, it's history, bookmarks, and open tabs. Is yours still set that way? This article has the steps to confirm on the Preferences page: Address bar autocomplete suggestions in Firefox -- last section "How can I control what results the location bar shows me?"
Thank you for your prompt reply. I realize I sent it at 5:58 on a Friday, so I don't expect another prompt reply.
Not solved.
Yes I mean the Firefox search box in the "awesome bar." Autocomplete doesn't work on URL or on the search. Checked "preferences" (before my first message) and about:config (after your reply). No luck. Even turned autocomplete off and then on again. No change.
The only little thing : when I installed 40.0.2 on 8/14 I got "installation failed because your settings could not be verified". Or something like that. I tried again without a problem. I realize that when install said "cannot verify your settings" , it really meant "I just screwed up your settings." But I don't see why the problem should persist after another install. -D

reinstalled Firefox and the problem is gone. there is evidence that it was screwing up on yesterday's install. - d
