Thunderbird no longer automatically delivers emails from my verizon account, I need to manuallly get emails. Is there a way to configure Thunderbird?

Thunderbird was updated within the last week to a newer version, I believe 38.2.0. It no longer delivers emails automatically from my verizon email account. In order to get emails I must click on the get messages tab. How can I configure Thunderbird to automatically get new messages?

I tried that in Thunderbird. I get a page that has a header Account Settings but it does not look like the page you posted. If I click on any of the items on the left side I get an account wizard pop up that says that account already exists and this I need to use a new account name.

After you opened account settings, on the left: select Server settings under the account that doesn't work.
