lots of times the crash report will say: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_READ the last couple said this. another one: EXCEPTION_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION. but there are others.

I have an old Presario v2000 desk top. I have all the plugins 'ask to activate', and they rarely ask except for adobe flash and sometimes adobe acrobat.

I have refreshed and reinstalled mozilla - i have the latest version installed.

I have reinstalled internet explorer and ran without add ons and have ran several antivirus/malware programs.

I'm thinking maybe uninstall internet explorer8, and install explorer6 - which i think was original with this computer, and try a repair install of windows xp. Or maybe it would be best to install an old version of adobe flash?

any ideas thanks

well i went through all of these steps except for the last on. On the last one no tab opened saying the report was being processed. But nothing in the steps solved the problem. It still crashes frequently. thanks for the reply.

The "last one" would show you the crash report ID's; if you post those ID's here we could view your Firefox crash reports to see "what's up".

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report. The most recent reports are of value. Reports that are older than (say) 2 months usually don't help us.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

thought i would submit a couple from a little earlier since the first 5 were so close together and had the same reason.

The two latest crashes appear to be triggered by this DLL file - LVPrcInj.dll, which is used by Logitech QuickCam software.

You should look to see is an update is available from Logitech, but I would be surprised if an update was available for WinXP almost two years after XP went E-O-L.

The last three crashes don't appear to have a recognizable [by me] trigger event.

Sorry, beyond that I am at a loss for suggestions about how to proceed.

due to the range of error signatures, i would speculate that faulty hardware might be involved in the issue. can you test the integrity of your RAM with a tool like www.memtest.org?

And the same for the two crash reports that you posted while I was looking at the first 5 crash reports and mulling them over to come up with a response.

i do have a program called 'advanced care system9' which claims to do a memory check but maybe it doesn't actually test the physical memory or something - I'll try the memory checker that you suggested

thanks for the help

unable to use memtest because system doesn't have boot from stick option and my optical drive not working it seems. this may take sometime before i'm able to proceed - if i decide to proceed. But thanks for all your help .
