while on a web page, each time my cursor is moved over a potential link, the detailed URL for that link appears in a box adjacent to the cursor and often interferes with my accessing a chosen link. How can I get rid of this URL appearance while moving my cursor over links?

This is possibly a feature added by an installed extension.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
