Private window on my mac is not working

I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it and opened a private window. It worked once with the purple in the browser and after the first time it has stopped working.

Is the purple not a sign or is it always present in private windows?

I you are using Firefox in Always use Private Browsing mode the purple won't appear.
