In Firefox 56.0.2/Windows10, I am unable to block cookies from washingtonpost.com either by turning off all cookies, or by selectively blocking the domain name. Is there a way around this?

If you totally block them possibly not be able to read or login to Washington Post at all. Try Using Private Browsing with all options ticked as well as adblockers such as Ghostery, Ublock Origin.
