I had this problem before and just got a new laptop. In the security settings I have it toggled to delete cache, cookies, browser and download history, form and search history, and active logins upon closing. It never does it, it hasn't done it since the last few updates. I can't remember just which update the problem started. I thought it might be my old laptop, but now with this brand new one, with a brand new clean install, it has the same issue. I use the history icon at the top and delete the history manually before I close the browser. I am not a computer expert, I do have some experience. However, all the data that the troubleshooting information shows means nothing to me. Just a heads up.

Post the screen of the setting so we can see what is set.

Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar. The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.

Turn on Remember My Browsing And Download History At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on Cache and Form And Search History and whatever else you want.

FredMcD, I've already done that.

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

I do that as well. I've been trying to find out why it doesn't work for some time. I go to the history icon at the top and delete all the search history, then clear all the history manually there as well, before I click the exit button on firefox.

How long does it take before all Firefox processes have appeared from the Windows Task Manager when you close Firefox?

I don't see any instances of Firefox in the processes in task manager as soon as I close the browser.
