I've had problems with Yahoo mail, my "Sent" folder was deleted. They restored this, but now in Thunderbird I get this message:- Current operation on "Sent" did not succeed, The mail Server responded unavailable. But I can send mails, it's just annoying. So how do I stop the message?

Chosen solution

Hi Total guess here, but as nobody seems to have an answer... Just in case the problem is with one of, or several of, the messages that existed and were restored by Yahoo when the original glitch occurred, and it pops up each time Thunderbird and Yahoo try to sync the sent folder... Could you try moving the older sent messages to a subfolder in Yahoo, or to an archive folder, or a local folder on Thunderbird that does not sync with Yahoo online? I'm hoping you have not accumulated many thousands of sent messages. Appreciate your patience and persistence! Agnes

Do you have a Reply-To Address entered for the account in Tools/Account Settings, (select the account in the left pane)?

Thanks for reply. Have checked Tools/Account settings & I DO NOT have a "Reply to Address" set up. Have you any other ideas to solve please?

It's hard to say without knowing the details of your system, e.g. do you have a security program scanning outgoing mail, do you use a 'Yahoo account key' or a 3rd-party app password in TB?

There are so many and frequent issues with Yahoo mail that it's hard to recommend, unless you have no alternatives.

more options

I use AVG as Browser security & I sign into T/Bird using my Yahoo password. This all started when Yahoo deleted all of my "Sent" folder. I got them to recover it, now when I go into sent mails in T/bird I get this message & I can't stop it coming up.

more options

Maybe after the recovery there's a mismatch between the Sent folder in TB and the one on the Yahoo server, assuming it's an IMAP account. If you right-click the Sent folder, Properties, Repair Folder, that will prompt a re-download from Yahoo (for IMAP).

more options

Thanks. But before I do this, does this mean that all 9000 messages in my "Sent" Folder will be downloaded again from Yahoo? If so how do I get rid of the duplication's?

more options

Yes, all messages will be downloaded, or synchronized, unless you uncheck 'Keep messages in all folders...' for the Sent folder in Tools/Account Settings, Synchronization & Storage. There shouldn't be any duplication, as you are just synchronizing the folder between TB and the mail server.

If you create a folder, e.g. SentOld, on the Yahoo mail website, and move the Sent messages there, repairing the Sent folder won't download any messages. But it may resolve the problem that arose after the recovery.

more options

Thanks. Just to get this 100% correct. I'm only interested in the "Sent" Folder, so do I :- Go to Tools/Account Settings/Synch, & then go to Advanced settings & uncheck "Sent" only? Then carry out the repair?

more options

Yes, uncheck any folders for which you want to automatically download only the headers. If you then select a message to download, it's stored in the TB cache, not the profile folder.

more options

Sorry, you have confused me a bit now. I only want to Resynch the "Sent" folder, so do I just uncheck that folder? Using this method:- Go to Tools/Account Settings/Synch, & then go to Advanced settings & uncheck "Sent" only? Then carry out the repair?

more options

Uncheck 'Keep messages in all folders...', then uncheck Sent in the Advanced window, then repair Sent. Even if for some reason it downloads the full messages, it's only 9000.

more options

Now you worry me! You state if it downloads the full messages it's only 9000. But that means I will have a "Sent" folder of 18000 messages all duplicated, giving another problem of how do I delete 9000 duplicates? PS I know you are trying to help but this concerns me

more options

Syncing with the server only makes the Sent folder in TB match the one on the mail server - there is no duplication. If you're concerned about it, move the current Sent folder messages to a subfolder of Local Folders.

more options

Well I thought it was getting a little complicated so I clicked right on the SENT file, went into Properties, clicked Repair. Result I'm still getting the original message that I'm trying to eliminate, this is the full message I get:- The current operation on SENT did not succeed. The mail server for account, my e mail address, responded UNAVAILABLE UID FETCH service error whilst fetching messages. So have you any other ideas?

more options

It's a common error with no apparent single solution. Some users find it corrects itself in a few days, some find that emptying the Trash on the Yahoo site helps. Yahoo is widely regarded as an inferior mail service, especially if it's accessed through email programs.

more options

OK, thanks, I will try deleting the Trash on Yahoo. Also realized tonight that the message disappears after about 10 secs., & as I don't look at the SENT box much I think I can live with it. BUT many thanks for all of your help

more options

Coming back to see if anybody else can help with this. It's getting annoying. Is there any way of getting rid of this message every time I open my "Sent" folder?

No takers? Would really like some advise/help
