I recently updated Firefox to 78.0.2. Previous to updating I was able to access my email on Thunderbird, but after updating I now get a message that says my email server has been reset and I cannot access emails on my computer. I called the ISP and he had me delete my email account on my computer with the intention of reinstalling it. However, now I cannot reinstall my email account on my computer. I can still access the email though the ISP Webmail. Any thoughts? Blaine

It looks like their POP server doesn't support secure connections, although the IMAP server does.

They must have changed that because it used to support secure connections. Thanks

So I tried changing the settings on my POP 3 account. Connection security: None Authentication Method : Password transmitted insecurely

Outgoing Server Connection Security : None Authentication Method : Password transmitted insecurely

That worked. I was able to receive my emails on my Desktop However, I'm not comfortable with those settings. I called the tech service at my ISP. He tells me that when he accesses my email account that it works when he has the server settings as:

Connection Security : SSL/TLS Authentication Method Normal Password

Outgoing Server Connection Security : STARTTLS Authentication Method : Normal Password

Those settings do not work for me on my desktop computer, however those settings work on my Laptop. Any idea what I need to look for on my computer to make those settings work? Everything worked just fine on the desktop until 2 days ago.

What's the security/AV app on the desktop? Running in Windows safe mode is a way to test the effect of startup apps. You should always exclude the TB profile folder from AV scanning, and disable AV scanning of secure (SSL) connections. Your experience strongly suggests an external app as the source of the problem.

I have Kaspersky Total Security. I am working with Kaspersky support to try to find the problem. When you say an external app is causing the problem, what type of app are you referring to?

An external app is one that is not TB, but affects TB, like Kaspersky. See this topic for measures to 'contain' Kaspersky:
