syncing thunderbird email with gmail, google contacts on Windows 10
Finding it v difficult to sync thunderbird email with gmail, google contacts and google calendar on Windows 10. Not easy and addons don't seem to be there. May go back to using gmail as email client.
Chosen solution
You need to change how deletions are handled in Thunderbird’s Account Settings > Server Settings > When I delete a message. Set it to move deleted messages to the IMAP Trash/Bin/Deleted folder of your Gmail account.

Understood, thanks. If anyone else knows a way round this problem,I'd be grateful for illumination!
Try eM Client and Hexamail Flow. The latter lists support for both Google Contacts and CardDAV, which suggests it's not using CardDAV to facilitate Google Contacts sync.
eM Client and Hexamail Flow both look like standalone email clients tather than TB add-ons. If I have to move away from TB, why shoudn't I go for Outlook, as it is already installed on my machine and seems to be able to sync with Google Contact Groups using Outlook4Gmail add-in?
There's no reason, you pick what works best for you.
I have downloaded Card Book since TBSync does not work. I cannot find any way to set up CardBook to link to Google COntacts to sync my Google Contacts. Card Book is a big blank with no inputs. There is no help file, no instructions. Perhaps it too is useless?

Google Contacts can be synced without add-ons in TB 78.7.1:

In Card Book: right-click in the left pane, New Address Book, Remote, Google, enter user name (gmail address) and password, Validate.
