Incoming E-Mail messages contain the name of my neighbohood in the TO: field instead of my own E-Mail address. I haven't made any changes in my profile, so I don't know why that's happening. I am still getting the messages, but I'm concerned about this sudden change.

Chosen solution

Remove the entry from your address books for your neighborhood. Thunderbird uses the entries in your address books to label the to and from information to make it more friendly. It becomes confusing when erroneous entries are in the address book for those addresses.

For example I regularly get emails in my inbox from my blog. These emails arrive from the address noreply-comment@blogger.com but because of the way the email is structures it appears in my list as

UK MAKETPLACE <noreply-comment@blogger.com>

If I add that address to my address book then all future mail from noreply-comment@blogger.com will appear in the list as UK MAKETPLACE, but the very next notification email I got was

edwardpitt <noreply-comment@blogger.com>

So that edwardpit email would appear in the list as UK MAKETPLACE if the no reply address was in my address book. Now as it is difficult to know what the underlying address is without looking at the header of the email you have to be careful what you add to your addressbook, you also will have entries in your collected address book where you have mistakenly replied to these noreply type emails that can trip you up unless you actually remove them.

My very first blog post in 2010 was on this same topic. https://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com/2010/08/remove-you-from-your-mail.html

But now you find the setting by opening options and searching for show.
