I'm sure many will recall this symptom, from years past, that occasionally re-emerges

You close Firefox, and want to relaunch, but nothing happens. There is no accompanying message announcing that "Firefox is already running, but not responding". You must "end task" in the Task Manager.

Also, why are there so many instances of Firefox running in the Task Manager. Is that related to the problem?

This has been happening for a while now, before 88.01. Is there a fix? ________________________________________ Firefox 88.01, Windows 20h2

More than one process is normal for the current Firefox. http://www.ghacks.net/2016/07/22/multi-process-firefox/

Multi-process Firefox is codenamed "e10s". https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/multiprocess

Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh).

Let the program just sit there for about 10 minutes. Then close the browser. Is the problem still there?
