Thunderbird 102.4.2 started crashing on startup THIS AFTERNOON and now I can't open it at all

This afternoon Thunderbird "crashed" when I quit the app —something it's been doing lately, but it was rare and always opened again afterward—and as usual offered the crash reporter and the option to quit or restart after reporting. I chose to report and reopen, but it crashed before it could launch completely. I have tried probably about 10X since to open it, but it crashed with every attempt.

I'm running Thunderbird 102.4.2 on an iMac running OS 12.6.1 (Monterey). 27 inch, Retina 5K,24Gb memory. I haven't made any significant changes (or any at all) to the machine recently that would account for the timing of this occurrence. If there's other information that might help, please let me know.

This is the email client I use for my business and have for many years (13 or so) without any issues annoying enough to report, I'm not sure what I'm going to do until I can get this fixed...which I can, hopefully? The thing is that I can't launch it in order to check for updates. I checked the bugzilla forum for this topic (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1766101) and it sounds like I need 104+ to get past the fix for this but I don't know how to update Thunderbird without opening it. If it can't be fixed then I'll need help figuring out how to export my address book/contacts and possibly some of the emails I need.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

You have said nothing that indicates bug 1766101 applies here.

Perhaps post some crash ids that might detailed information to go on with. see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozilla-crash-reporter-tb#w_viewing-crash-reports

This matches to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1799247 which does not yet have a resolution.

These crash reports are all compact related, but further investigation is needed to tie it to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1766101

In the mean time, if you start thunderbird from the Mac terminal with "-offline", you might have a better shot at getting it started. When you do, 1. Open Thunderbird settings and disable automatic compact 2. Does a manual compact succeed? File > Compact Folders?
