I wish to transfer some Thunderbird email folders via a flash drive (the means I've been asked to use) to an organization, which will prepare the folders for eventual archival deposit in the Library of Congress. How do I transfer them from my PC to a flash drive? Precise steps will be appreciated.

I suggest using the addon, importexporttools. Once installed, highlight each mail folder, click tools>importexporttools, then click exportallmessagesinthefolder. That final menu lets you specify the format of each message, which is your decision. This process creates each message such that it is standalone and not dependent on being within a Thunderbird account.
