Syncing changed my entire layout

more options

I have no idea what happened. I signed into my Firefox account on my laptop in order to sync my devices, and now the format of every browser tab is completely different. It's very inaccessible and completely unusable to me now, and it's sending me into a panic. Does anybody know what this is and how to reverse it? Here's some examples of what it looks like now. It's even changed how the YouTube progress bar looks.

I'm sorry if this would be better placed in a different topic, but I genuinely have no idea where it would be placed.

If you are referring to the dark mode then you can select the default System Theme or the Light theme.

See also the Website Appearance setting.

No, the theme isn't the issue. It's affecting areas of things it shouldn't, and interfering with specific themes on some sites. It's making it nearly impossible for me to use sites like Discord and some of the browser games I play, and it's only on this device. Firefox on my second device is perfectly fine, even after changing the theme.

I can't tell from your description what specific things changed. Does it seem like everything is zoomed up too large? Or are the fonts different?

Could you test in Firefox's Troubleshoot Mode? In that mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is running:

You can restart Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Help > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)

and OK the restart. A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

If Firefox is not running:

Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.) A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

Note: Don't use the Refresh without first reviewing this article to understand what will be deleted: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

Any improvement?

Image not mine; this is what the proper layout is supposed to look like. Discord, too, has a massive problem. There's lines around everything and it makes it incredibly distracting and hard to use. Changing individual website themes doesn't affect it, and some themes look exactly the same where they shouldn't. I tried troubleshooting mode, and nothing changed.

Hmm, lines around things. Could it be High Contrast mode? See: Disable high contrast mode in Firefox.
