I didn't back up my bookmarks before reinstalling the operating system on a Vista notebook PC. I decided to import the bookmarks from my XP notebook by exporting to an html then importing that file on the other PC, but this failed to produce any results (nothing was added to the bookmarks even though the html file contained a lot of entries. I think I will try back-up to json and restore now to see if that works. Any suggestions? How do I transfer bookmarks from Firefox 3.6.8 on one computer to Firefox 3.6.8 on another computer?

Thanks

Make sure that that HTML backup has a .html file extension. You can verify that in the Properties of that file.

Can you open that HTML file in Firefox via File > Open File ?
