Firefox is asking to upgrade to 3.6.15, but I'm already am on 3.6.3, why?

Firefox will periodically ask to update to version 3.6.15. I am however already on a later version 3.6.3, so I'm not sure why it is asking me to upgrade to an older version?

Firefox 3.6.15 is the latest STABLE version. Update your copy of Firefox. By the way who said that 3.6.15 is an older version.

You may be confused about the version numbering system in use.

The Firefox version numbering is 3.6.n, where n represents the update number. 3.6.3 is the 3rd update and 3.6.15 is the 15th update, the higher the value for n represents a more recent release. There have been a couple of omissions in the sequence, there was no 3.6.1 or 3.6.5

I just thought that since a ".3" is bigger than ".15" that it would be a later version... am I really wrong?
