The drop down just appeared. It read, "Do you want firefox to remember the firefox password". On the right were three choices; ALWAYS REMEMBER, REMEMBER THIS SESSION, NEVER REMEMBER Where can I find this feature?

That is an appearance change made in Firefox 4 if you enter a name and password to sign in. In Firefox 4 you get a key icon on the location bar that opens a pop-up, just like happens if you click the (bookmark) star. In Firefox 3.6.x, that you appear to be using, you get a bar at the top of the browser page asking to remember a password.
