I use firefox 3.6.16, on Win7/64-bit. When I use the settings per "Form autocomplete entries are not saved" article, the settings revert to "Firefox will: Remember History"; with this setting the form entries are not kept on a site where the feature has worked before. I'm also running Norton Internet Security, and, per article mentioned above, I turned off the "Identity Safe" feature (which had never been turned on). This made no difference.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

See:

If all History and Cookies settings are the default then the "Use custom settings for history" choice reverts to "(Never) Remember history". So in your case all settings set to the defaults.

I'm very grateful for your reply--I tried your suggestion using the article you referenced: no difference; the problem still occurs in safe mode. I will continue the troubleshooting steps recommended in the article.
