I thought the reply very helpful until I tried it, there was no entry into preferences as shown in fig 2 of the instructions. Is this because of version of System (10.6.7) or version of ALOT

Click the orange Firefox button, go to Add-ons, then Extensions. Find ALOT in the list and then click Remove.

Restart Firefox in Safe Mode by clicking Help | Restart With Add-ons Disabled.

When you see the menu appear, checkmark the option called "Reset All User Preferences to Firefox defaults" and then click the button called "Make changes and restart".
