Menus disappear/transparent/locked-in-place

Otherwise:

Possibly your choice of a theme Try View > PageStyle > Basic Page Style, your theme will be listed as your other choice.

If you use pass the mouse over the the lines or use the cursor keys do the choices become visible in reversed colors such as white text on s navy blue background.

Your question about mouse over the lines I actually get very feint white words in a white background.

Many thanks for your previous advice but as I said it didn't work. I have actually found out what the trouble was and clicked on the Desktop and went into Peersonalize - Windows colour etc - advanced. I changed the colour of the tooltip and that solved the problem. I knew I would get there eventually.
