Upgraded to Firefox 8 today; now told Sync is incompatable with 8. What's up? Thanks.
Just upgraded to Firefox 8 from 3.6, after getting a message that 3 wouldn't be supported much longer. I though Sync was a Mozilla extension, so I'm surprised it's not compatible with version 8. Is this a temporary situation, or do I need to go back to an earlier version. Thanks. Daniel
Chosen solution
The Firefox 4+ versions have Sync built in, they don't need the Firefox Sync Add-on as Firefox 3.5 and 3.6 did. Un-install the Firefox Sync Add-on.

Hello Jack
I know it's part of Firefox; I've had it installed for quite a while, but after upgrading to Firefox 8, the Add-ons Manager window tells me it's incompatible with Firefox 8.0 and it's no longer functioning.

OK, but how do I uninstall? I opened the Add-on's window and clicked the remove button, closed and reopened the browser, and the extension is gone.
But Sync still seems to be there. Under the Tools menu, I still have a Sync Now command, and when I use that, I get an error messaged "Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action."
When opening the Preferences window, the Sync tab is in the old position (to the left of the Advanced tab). In all the Firefox instructional pages, it's shown as to the right of the Advanced tab. Also, when I select that Tab, my computer, sync key etc. are all still accessible. I don't get the set-up dialog box, which seems to indicate that the existing sync is still there, but it won't operate properly. Ideas?
Thanks
I think I'll leave this one up to the-edmeister.
Sorry,
Jack

Hi Fixnall,
You may want to reset your Firefox Sync data. It may be corrupted. Replace your Sync information
If after that it doesn't work, fill a bug, with the information in your log: https://philikon.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/how-to-file-a-good-sync-bug/
