What does the hand icon mean when it has a red line through it?

Example: When I place the cursor on "extended forecast" on one of my selected weather locations on weather portion of Yahoo, a hand with a small red circle with a diagonal line through it appears and will not let me access that feature. It happens on other sites also and will not let me access some things.

That usually means that you try to do something that you aren't allowed to do (forbidden).

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
