The files I downloaded are still on the downloads list (the little box). However, the Downloads folder in my documents is empty. Are those files still around?

Chosen solution

You can right-click a file in the Download Manager window to check that.
If Open and Open Containing Folder are grayed in the right-click context menu then the file is no longer present in the original download location.
