Hi,

An easy way would be to use the SearchReset add-on. Please note that the developer and a user have rightly pointed out that if there are add-ons/extensions or a user.js file that reverts/overrides the changes you would have to remove those first. Additionally if there are external Windows silent runners (legitimate or otherwise) on the PC that makes changes to Firefox configuration, you would have to disable the settings in the particular program, or remove it via the Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features, or use other methods to permanently eliminate it before using SearchReset.

If you do not suspect any external Windows programs (legitimate or malicious), you can also try to Reset Firefox and start afresh. In this case you also get the opportunity to re-authorize any global add-ons/extensions, and also keep the suspicious ones disabled.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.
