At the top of the screen a line currently says' Ask a Question Mozilla Support Mozilla Firefox. This line names whatever site I'm on. It's superfluous. How do I eliminate it?

That is the title bar, and it is controlled by the operating system. As far as I know, you cannot remove it.

Thank you finitarry. However it only appeared the other day. We had been looking for what had been the third line, my row of saved links in folders which had disappeared suddenly. They were retrieved but up popped this title line with the Firefox icon. Regards.

Is the Firefox window currently maximized (Alt+Space)?

more options

Yes, it's maximised.

more options

If the window is maximized then the Firefox button and the Tab bar should be drawn in the title bar.

You can check the browser.tabs.drawInTitlebar pref on the about:config page.
