how can I recover all of my pre-6month old bookmarks, which suddenly disappeared

I was manually editing out bookmarks I no longer needed from my pre-6 month old bookmarks file - the mouse slipped across the toolbars - and suddenly all the pre-6 month old bookmarks were gone. They are not stored with my profile - I only have one profile, to the best of my knowledge. Are they lost for good - or do they still exist in a back-up folder - somwehere.

hello, normally there should be a batch of backups of your bookmarks contained within the profile folder: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer

If you haven't closed and restart Firefox yet then you should be able to restore them via Organize (first button in Library) > Undo (Command+Z).

Otherwise if you use the Time Machine then you can restore and older copy of the places.sqlite file or restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
