I downloaded a software and click the to install. After the welcome screen and choosing the language, a screen pop up saying no valid Java runtime environment has been detected. You need to install JRE 1.6 or above. I have already the latest JRE 7 installed. What should I do? Thanks

If I understand your situation correctly, the installation you have dowloaded using Firefox requires an older version of JRE. You can dowload and install it from here:

JRE 6 downloads

Different versions of JRE can coexist, so you will end up with two versions that will not interfere.

Note that Firefox needs a 32 bit Java version being a 32 bit application.

If that other program requires a 64 bit Java version and you only have the 32 bit Java version then you need to install the 64 bit Java version as well.

See Java Platform > Java SE 7U25 (JRE Download)

Thanks, smo. I did as you suggested but I still get the same. The error message refers to JRE 1.6 or over. Seems like a very old version. I am running Window 7 64 bits and latest Firefox. Someone suggested running from the root directory. That didn't work either. Appreciate any other advice. cheers, henryslt
