I am running Firefox 24 on Windows 8 Pro 64-bit in desktop mode. I have QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.4 installed. But when I try to go http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/ and play trailers all I get is black box and nothing is playing. No prompting to authorize a plugin, no error message, nothing. I tried to see if it will work with other browsers, so I tried Google Chrome. I went to the website, got prompted to authorize the plugin and then was able to play trailers without any problems. The page won't even render correctly under IE. So, it makes me conclude that it is a browser problem. Can you help me please? Thanks.

Do you have a (colored) plugin icon on the location bar?

What do you see if you right-click that black space?

You can use "Inspect Element" in the right-click context menu to open the built-in Inspector (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer;Ctrl+Shift+I) to see what element gets selected.

Is his in a normal tab or in a private tab?

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

It is a normal tab. Did all the steps as you said and it did not work. Hardware acceleration is always disabled.

The website is working. Thank all for your help. I upgraded Java plugin, removed Theme Font & Size Changer Add-on. Uninstall old versions of Java present on the system, activated Windows. I do not know which of this fixed a problem, but it is working now.
