You can turn on and off different toolbars in the following ways:

  • right-click a blank area of the tab bar
  • right-click the "new tab" ("+") button on the tab bar
  • View menu > Toolbars

If the bar doesn't have a checkmark on that menu, click it and see whether that resolves the issue.

If it already had a checkmark and still didn't display, the dimensions of the bar may be corrupted in one of Firefox's settings files. This shouldn't happen immediately after a Reset, but... stuff happens. You can rename the file and then recustomize your toolbars from scratch. Here's how:

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using

Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit (preferably using the menu)

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old

Restart Firefox. Hopefully now your toolbars will display normally.

Any luck?

I tried your steps and when I opened "show folder" and exited firefox I did not find folder called localstore.rfd to rename. I did not see any file connected to RewardU or Upromise. Toolbar is still invisible but appears to be checked and there is a space below bookmark toolbar - when I uncheck RewardU toolbar the space goes away. Any other suggestions??

Hi johnnybug, Windows may be hiding the .rdf extension. This Microsoft support article describes how to make sure that file extensions are displayed: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wi.../show-hide-file-name-extensions.

The blank space is interesting... I don't know why that would occur.

I tried the windows help process and cleared the "hide extensions for known file types. Still have invisible toolbar. Should I try your first fix again?

Tried your first fix and found localstore.rfd and renamed it but only the bookmarks toolbar was unchecked and I was able to recheck it and it properly displayed. Upromise's RewardU toolbar is still invisible and checked.

I have also noticed that when I am redownloading the Upromise RewardU add on - it stops with a few seconds remaining and does not finish prior to install box appears and then wants restart of firefox. Appears to be an issue?? Anything that will stop add on from completing download??

I don't know why the toolbar is not displaying correctly.

I don't think partial/interrupted downloading is the problem. If Firefox is installing the extension, it must be downloading completely, otherwise Firefox would normally declare it to be corrupted.

Hi jscher2000:

Actually I think that the toolbar not displaying is a firefox issue as my wife uses different laptop computer and the Upromise, facebook, and other add ons don't display properly in toolbar under the bookmark toolbar. I have also downloaded the Upromise toolbar in IE browser on this machine and it displays. I'm hoping that firefox will be updated and solve this problem. Thanks for your attention and suggestions.
