Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

This might be a quick fix...

Firefox 30 turned most plugins from being on by default to requiring permission to run. Some plugins that affect the user interface do not work well in this mode. So here is my suggestion:

Change the Trend Micro plugin to either "Always Activate" or "Never Activate". To start, open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins.

Find the Trend Micro toolbar rating plugin and change "Ask to Activate" to "Always Activate" (or "Never Activate").

To test whether it helped, press Ctrl+n to open a new window. Any improvement?

By the way, what's the problem with Flash? Or did you already solve that one?
