Try unsyncing from Firefox Sync then resyncing. Go to the Menu>Options, in Options, go to the Sync tab, and in the Sync tab, sign out then sign back in. It might just be one of those weird, random problems you sometimes run into. Perhaps Firefox made a mistake when you set up Sync and you have to resync it.

Have you set up Sync on the desktop, yet? On the computer that Firefox will not sync on, click the Menu button, and in the menu, click Sync. Does it open a page that tells you Welcome to Sync or does the Sync icon (the refresh icon) spin?

Thanks for that. I have set up sync, I am connected into my sync account, when I click on the sync icon NOTHING at all happens. Actually the first time I clicked it said it will start synching in a moment but never anything happened.

Try to leave Firefox idle for sometime.

You can also check the about:sync-log page via the location/address bar to see if there are errors reported.

Thx Cor-el. I have left the device idle for hours thinking it may take some time. The sync symbol rotates for a second or so and then rests again. Nothing seems to show up in the log either. Its really a weird thing. I have sync'd everything else with no troubles. I could try to log on with my partners account and see if that works with her firefox data.

There is a Sync now button in the Customize palette that you can drag in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list.

I tried it all by now. Just wont work on my second PC. I now did a Firefox Mozbackup and then restored my profile so I have at least the bookmarks on the other PC. Thanks again for the help but I am giving up for now...

I'm really sorry! Something on your PC may be blocking the Firefox Sync servers. Do you have an antivirus/firewall? Also, please go to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc, double click the file called Hosts, open it in Notepad, and copy-and-paste the contents of it here. I know you've already closed this topic but we didn't try everything, yet.

I see you dont give up easy... good for you and THANK you. I tried to turn off the firewall and my Panda security, no success. I can try that again...

Here the requested file:

  1. Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
  2. This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
  3. This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
  4. entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
  5. be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
  6. The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
  7. space.
  8. Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
  9. lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
  10. For example:
  11. 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
  12. 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
  1. localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
  2. 127.0.0.1 localhost
  3. ::1 localhost

So no firewall and nothing blocking Firefox server in hosts...this may just be something wrong with Firefox itself. Are you running the latest version of Firefox on that computer? You can reset Firefox. There was another person on here who had a weird problem like you, and they fixed the issue by resetting Firefox. It's definitely worth a shot. Also, I see a LOT of crud (malware toolbars, adware, etc) on there like TopArcadeHits, Conduit, Ask Toolbar, and Babylon. Resetting Firefox will take care of that. Before you reset (if you decide to): disable ALL your enabled add-ons, restart Firefox, then try syncing again. I have a feeling that it's DoNotTrackMe or another add-on.

As you were busy doing all that research for me I once again shut down all antivirus, firewalls, etc. Signed out of sync, restarted all my devices once more and... IT WORKS now. Dont ask me why exactly... one of these weird things indeed. Thank you very much again, I am impressed by the help and persistence. The issue is now RESOLVED! Keep fingers crossed... Cheers
